Volunteer: Native Plant Learning & Planting Day - site of future Cultivate Aurora Greenhouse! Join Food Justice NW Aurora and Soil Transformations to learn and plant native plants at the future site of the Cultivate Aurora Community Greenhouse. Explore the Parkview Community Garden and Food Forest, and learn about upcoming plans for the 3,360 square foot greenhouse! Native plants are well adapted to Colorado's clay soils, dry climate, and temperature extremes. Their deep root systems improve soil structure, increase water infiltration, support pollinators, and provide food for beneficial soil organisms. Native plantings can be incorporated into borders, pollinator gardens, food forests, and underutilized spaces within the community gardens. We’ll have over 200 Colorado-native plants to put in the ground at 5 community gardens over Labor Day weekend! Help us start getting them planted and watered in, all while learning about native plant care and the benefits of native plants. Meeting place and time: Parkview Community Garden: 12444 E Parkview Dr., Aurora, CO 80011 Saturday, 9/5 at 8:30am We will plant the other gardens on Sunday morning during an interactive Native Plant Workshop & Planting Day. If you’d like to join us for that too, please also sign up for the Sunday volunteer opportunity! Prepare for high temperatures and be prepared to be outdoors for the morning. Please wear comfortable clothing and closed-toe shoes. We recommend bringing a hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen. If you have a favorite shovel, spade, hand tool, or gloves, feel free to bring those too! All ages are welcome! If you plan to bring kiddos, let us know in advance so we can bring enough kid-sized gloves and tools. Volunteer: Service Day @ Hinkley High School Community GardenWelcome to the Hinkley High School Community Garden's 2026 season! We are located just off Chambers Rd., between 6th Ave and Colfax. Free parking is available along the street, but not in front of the apartment building next to the garden. RTD bus route 153 also stops next to the garden. Each workday will have its own unique focus, but common workday tasks will involve: weeding and maintaining common areas and common production plots for food donation, moving compost or mulch, organizing or cleaning up the tool shed, improving our watering systems for aid in water conservation efforts, and general garden cleanup. We will often have multiple garden stewards at each workday, and usually have smaller groups working on different goals throughout the workday. We like to offer cool drinks, snacks, sunscreen, and can loan out garden gloves, but we encourage volunteers to bring their favorite gloves, hats, and whatever they need to be comfortable while working. Our garden has some limited shaded seating under the pergola, but is otherwise very sunny! Finally, our garden does not have a bathroom on site. Please plan accordingly, and we understand if you may need to step out from time to time during workdays because of this. Please reach out to us at HinkleyHighSchoolCommunityGarden@dug.org to contact the garden stewards, and we hope to see you soon!
